Pasties and  Promises

Friends of St Marys

   &

Pasties & Promises 2017!

Friday 6th October at the Village Hall. Gather at 7pm. Auction starts at 7.30pm.

The Friends of St. Mary's and St. Mary's Congregation combine on Friday 6th October to bring you to ‘Pasties and Promises.’ Two years back we raised an enormous amount of money and had a lot of fun.

You know how it works: People (you!) offer to bake a cake a month for six months, provide half a day gardening, a day on your boat, a weekend in your holiday house, an outing with afternoon tea on your tandem bikes, a sunrise tour of the bird sanctuaries guided by an expert, three hours DIY, clock maintenance, your band to play at someone's party, etc. Then people (you!) come along and bid for them!
Just £7.50 for entry and a catalogue - to include pasties and as much as you can drink.

Put Friday 6 October in your diaries and start to think what you can ‘promise'

extract from the website is as follows:

History

Built on its current site in 1805, the Theatre Royal Bath is one of the oldest working theatres in the country.

1705 Bath's first theatre was built by George Trim, a small and cramped theatre which made little or no profit.
1738 Thirty years later the theatre was demolished, to make room for a building that was to become the Mineral Water Hospital. Some plays were performed during this time at Simpson's Rooms.
1723 'The New Theatre', in Kingsmead Street, opened – closing for the last time in 1751. Just before its closure the Prince and Princess of Wales patronised the theatre.
1750 A new theatre, in Orchard Street, opened on 27th October, with a performance of Shakespeare's Henry IV.
1768 By a special act of parliament a Royal Patent was granted. Bath has a Theatre Royal for the first time. It is also the first 'Theatre Royal' outside London. The Theatre's reputation was growing, and a season in Bath was as important for famous actors as a London billing.
1804 Plans for a new and improved Theatre in Beaufort Square are made.
1805 Orchard Street Theatre closed, to be converted into a Catholic church in 1809. Today it is a Masonic Hall.

Just one year from its conception, the new building was completed. It was designed by George Dance, professor of architecture at the Royal Academy. The theatre opened on 12th October 1805 with a performance of Richard III.

extract from the website follows:

Outreach

The Outreach department's primary aim is to create diverse forms of theatre work that engage with as wide an audience as possible, both within and without Bristol Old Vic.

Our work stimulates audiences and participants imaginatively and should awaken, or re-awaken, a desire to engage creatively with the world around us, either as participants or spectators.

Although much of our work is directed at young people, we are interested to engage with as wide a range of people as possible.

the following is from the website

BRISTOL'S WEST END THEATRE

The Bristol Hippodrome, the city's very own West End theatre, opened its doors on the 16th December 1912 when the curtain rose for the first time on what was generally agreed to be Oswald Stoll's most magnificent provincial theatre.
It is a superb example of the grand architecture of the late Victorian era and is one of the masterpieces of design by Frank Matcham, the most eminent theatre architect of his time. SENSATIONAL SHOWS!

The theatre has diversified over the years to encapsulate the full spectrum of live theatrical entertainment. From top West End shows: Cats, Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Beauty and the Beast, Blood Brothers and Grease, to name more than a few, through to regular visits from the best in Opera (WNO & Ellen Kent) and Ballet (ENB & Ballet International), Comedy, Children's' Shows, Concerts and even the Circus! They have all thrilled audiences over the years and continue to do so today.
