The Somerset Choral Society will perform their Summer Concert on Saturday 16th June at 7:30pm in St Mary’s Church, Wedmore.
Their programme will be the “Requiem Mass” by Amadeus Mozart and the “Foundling Hospital Anthem” by George Friederich Handel.
The Concert will be conducted by their Musical Director Edward Goater accompanied on Organ by Andrew Kirk; the Soloists will be Lucy Balderson (Soprano), Finn Lacey (Counter-Tenor), Oliver Chubb (Tenor), and Harry Guthrie (Bass).
The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass; Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. A completed version dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was first performed at a Requiem service on 14 February 1792.
The Foundling Hospital Anthem (HWV 268) is a choral anthem composed by George Friederich Handel in 1749. It was written for the Foundling Hospital in London (now Coram’s Field in Bloomsbury) and was first performed in the chapel there.
