NEW PRESIDENT OF MENDIP ROTARY CLUB
Mike Sartain (on the left in the picture) was recently inducted as president of the Rotary Club of Mendip by the outgoing president John Mander. Mike Sartain, a resident of Cheddar, is a director of local company Hale Events Ltd. On the same evening, Tom Elson from Wedmore was made president-elect, and Gerry McCann from Wookey became the club’s vice president.
In his valedictory speech, John Mander reminded members of the good work they had done in the community during the past year, including raising £2000 for Children’s Hospice South West and supplying materials to two local first schools to support teachers dealing with bereaved and grieving children. Members had planted crocus corms on the island in Cheddar Gorge, collected and re-cycled Christmas trees, and supplied stewards at two local events. There had been a successful and enjoyable visit to a mosque in Weston-super-Mare and an overseas trip to Riga in Latvia.
Mendip Rotary Club has recently started meeting at The George Inn in Wedmore on Thursday evenings. The club welcomes anyone who shares their desire to support community work in the area. To get in touch, please visit the club’s website or email mendiprotaryenquiries@gmail.com
