Generally speaking people come to the Abbey for three reasons.
First, they want to see a living Christian sanctuary that may have been the site of the oldest church, and was certainly once the greatest Abbey, in the country. Second, they come because they want to see the possible burial place of King Arthur, but the third reason people come to the Abbey grounds is simply for peace and quiet. The relative seclusion of the 36 acres provides the perfect atmosphere for people who want to forget their hectic daily lives, and take it easy.

Blackford Harvest Homet committee is holding its annual Winter Warmer event at the village hall tomorrow.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy home-cooked casseroles, puddings and a range of drinks from the licensed bar.
As well as good food there will be a quiz and a raffle.

Harvest Homes started when farmers put on a meal with cider to thank the workers for bringing in the harvest. Wedmore's event has now evolved into a full day of events, starting with a Church Service, followed by a Display, which includes a Harvest Home King, Queen and Princess. Local organisations and families take part in the display by dressing up, showcasing a classic car or by having colourful trailers.
There is a lunch for ladies and gentlemen over the age of 16, in the marquee on The Village Field followed by children's sports events (weather depending) and then a tea.
The evening is full of entertainment, often with a tribute band playing to a packed marquee. Wedmore's HH traditionally takes place on the third weekend in August.

Holy Trinity
Holy Trinity Church in Blackford was built in 1823 and its unusual design (octagonal) means it has fantastic acoustics and is a lovely space to meet and worship.
The building has recently been refurbished both outside and inside and is used by Blackford Community Choir for rehearsals as well as Sunday worship.
Sunday services are at 9 am or 6 pm and once a month Holy Trinity meets in Blackford Village Hall for the popular Sunday Breakfast. All are welcome at 9 am for bacon rolls, coffee, juice and cereal with a short act of worship at 9.30 am.
