Wedmore Playing Fields New Pavilion – ‘Buy a PV Panel’ scheme

-----------------------------------------------

(from the IoW News Magazine - February 2019)

The Wedmore Playing Fields are an important part of Wedmore life and pull together a number of sports organisations in one place. They are all featured in the 'Business Directory'... but here is a list of quick shortcuts to each one

Wedmore Sports Pavilion – Update Work on the new sports pavilion project at Wedmore is well underway, the roof was completed just before Christmas and internal works are progressing well. As we write this article the project is on programme and our aim is to be open for the first Saturday of the cricket season.

Funding is now in place to complete the ground floor fit-out and the external works.  We have secured sufficient funding to fit the staircase and to board out the first-floor area, as it made practical sense to complete this work now, but further works on the first-floor function room will resume as and when further funds allow. It has always been our wish to create a building with a fully sustainable future.

The key element is the inclusion of a 30KW photovoltaic array on the south roof slope of the building; these panels are being fitted in early January to enable us to benefit from the feed-in tariffs available. We have diverted funds to complete their installation. The PV panels will not only generate sufficient energy to power the building, but the projected surplus will generate additional income to cover the maintenance of the PV array and the building. The cost per panel works out at roughly £250. We would like to invite any community-minded individuals or businesses to take part in our ‘Buy a PV Panel’ scheme. In return for your generous donation, your name will be permanently engraved on a commemorative plaque displayed within the new pavilion.

If you would like to ‘Buy a PV Panel’ then please contact our treasurer Richard Banwell via e-mail at richard@banwell.org.uk or on 01278 641109. If anyone would like to have a look around the building under construction we are holding an open morning on Sunday 10 February from 10.00 am – 12.00 am, all visitors will be very welcome. Thank you Wedmore Playing Fields Management Committee
