Important News from the Wedmore Parish Council – December 2022

Parish Council Business

Hiya! Or perhaps Shwmae would be a better starting point for this particular entry.

Before we really get started, can I just say huge thanks to those of you that have
come up with the most incredible opening lines! Watch this space; I will be including
all of them over the coming months. They are fantastic.

Anyway, before we go forward, I just briefly want to touch on something which
has happened between editions and has meant some changes for the Council.
Unfortunately, Babs Lloyd has made the decision to step down from the council, and
I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ to her for supporting me through these first months
in this role, and also for the incredible amount of work she has done over her time
on the council.

Babs has made a huge contribution, ensuring the council has improved the way it
runs and is up to date with recent legislation and regulations. She had been part of
the committee that wrote many of the new policies and procedures that have since
been adopted by the council. She dedicated a huge amount of time to her role as
councillor, and more recently as chairman, and will be missed by all. Hwyl fawr Babs.

Following an Extraordinary Meeting of the Council on Thursday 27 October, I
am pleased to announce that the new Chairman of the Parish Council is Jacky Farley,
and Isobel Beacom has stepped forward as Vice Chairman. We are also very pleased
to welcome a new councillor, Oli Rant, who was co-opted in October’s meeting and
I shall be putting him to work very soon.

Right, down to business. By the time you receive this, we will be willing for the weather
to be kind to Lamplight. If you are new or new-ish to the village and haven’t had the
opportunity to attend, please try to this year. It’s a really wonderful event with a really
festive feel and there’s just something about being able to walk in the middle of the
road on a dark winter’s evening that fills you with a warm feeling.

Although that may just be the warm Chocolate Orange Gin that’s available from Gin Jar?! Who knows! We will also be heading towards the very first of the ‘Warm in Wedmore’ sessions. We’ve had some really great groups come together allowing this to happen, so thank you, all of you!

Finally, and this is a little odd – as someone who is notorious for leaving things
until the very last minute, but on behalf of Wedmore Parish Council, have a wonderful
Christmas, however, you spend it… and if you’re looking for a New Year’s resolution,

I’ve listed my top 5 below 😉
1. Become a Parish Councillor
2. Keep my hedges and vegetation trimmed
3. Pick up after my furry friend EVERY time!
4. Become a Parish Councillor
5. Be the kind of neighbour I would like to have.
