Isle of Wedmore News  – March

Parish Council business

The January meeting of the Council was held in Theale Village Hall at the last minute due to concerns from some members that the Council Rooms would not be a safe environment with Covid restrictions still in place.  The Council listened to a presentation from Alex Howley, Crew Manager at Cheddar fire station concerning the replacement of their 21 year old fire engine or “pump”.

It seems that the local Fire Authority intend to replace the machine with a smaller model and Mr Howley explained that it would not be suitable for fighting electrical fires nor would it have been able to tackle a chimney fire that occurred in the village earlier that day. He was seeking support from local parish councils for a like for like replacement and asked that we report concerns to the Fire Authority.  Members also heard that plans for further wind turbines within the parish are being considered.  They approved the installation of a handrail on the sloping path at the top of the cemetery.

We still have a small number of allotments to let.  Please contact me for details

Henry Butt Trophy. It’s that time of the year when we ask for nominations for a community minded individual or group of individuals who deserve recognition.  There must be many who have gone above and beyond during the pandemic.  Please send me your nominations and the winner will be announced at the May meeting of the Council

The  ‘Wedmore – Have Your Say’ day, on the 18th and 19th February at Wedmore Village Hall is now confirmed with presentations on the Neighbourhood Plan, street lighting, cycleways and footpaths and other topics planned. The new Parish Council website is “live” and can be reached by typing “Wedmore Parish Council” into Google.

The local Air Ambulance charity tells me that the recycled clothing bin in the village car park is being well used and they receive an average of £50 per month from the recycling company which is well above other bins in the locality.  Keep using it !!
