Isle of Wedmore News – May
Parish Council business
The March meeting of 2021 was once again held via ZOOM video conferencing. County Councillor David Huxtable reported that covid vaccinations were progressing well throughout the county. He was disappointed that none of the Wedmore applications for a grant from the County’s Climate Emergency Fund were successful but hoped that there could be some funding for a proposed safe cycle route between Wedmore and Blackford.
Members received a short presentation by Emma King concerning the proposed closure of the mental health ward in Wells which would move to Yeovil.
It was agreed to send her a letter of support to keep the facility in Wells. Members agreed to purchase a second-speed indicator device to be placed at various locations around the parish.
They also approved grants to the local Good Neighbour Group, a grant towards the formation of a MUGA at the sports ground and towards a defibrillator in Theale. The annual grants toward village hall maintenance were also approved.
The Annual Parish Assembly is due to be held towards the end of this month but we will have to wait for further instructions from the Government before a date can be confirmed.
