Isle of Wedmore News – October
Parish Council business
The August meeting was held at Theale Village Hall and although several Councillors were away on holiday, a good number of local residents attended. The Chair of the Village Hall Committee, David Hughes updated members on the Committee’s plans to bring the fabric of the building up to a more acceptable standard. He was seeking financial assistance from Sedgemoor District Council and asked that the Parish Council would consider some support. The lease renewal negotiation was ongoing between the Hall Committee and the Diocesan authorities.
A letter concerning the former Panborough Inn and signed by a number of residents had been circulated prior to the meeting. The Chair of the Parish Planning Committee, Cllr Sue Worrall advised everyone that the Council had opposed the planning application to change the use of the building from a pub to a private house. Until another application was submitted the Council would not comment further.
Following the recent resignation of a Councillor a vacancy had been advertised and the Council agreed to co-opt Andy Reeson as a Council member. Andy and his family live in Latcham and will be well known to many of you. He will represent Wedmore Ward on the Council.
Finally…can I ask any of you who have shrubs or hedges overhanging the narrow pavements in the centre of the village to ensure they are cut back as we have received numerous complaints over the past few weeks.
