Parish Council Business – December Report

Parish Council business

The October meeting of the Council was an unusually quiet affair. Members received a presentation from Ben Stevens of Gigaclear who have been installing fibre optic cables within the surrounding areas of the parish. He explained that although his company had lost the Government contract to continue the cable process, it had invested over £20m in the project and the work that they had completed should go live at the end of November.

It was sad to hear that the future of Christ Church, Theale was in some jeopardy due to a falling and ageing congregation and it was becoming more difficult to find volunteers to carry out routine maintenance. The Council agreed to pay for the churchyard to be mown before the winter in the hope that volunteers would be found to look after the grass cutting in the future. Members agreed that the local Scout Group could erect a direction sign at the entrance to Combe Lane. This would be done after the lane maintenance work was completed.

Council vacancy

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Jacky Farley of Bagley has been co-opted onto the Parish Council to fill the vacancy in the Theale Ward. Jacky and her family have lived in Bagley for 15 years and many of you will know her through her various volunteering positions at a toddler group in Blackford and at Wedmore First School. She has also joined the local playgroup committee set up by the Parish Council.

Finally on behalf of the Chairman and members of the Parish Council may I wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Anyone interested should contact the Clerk for more details.
