There will be loads to do for all the family, with stalls, games, refreshments, demonstrations and live entertainment. The event begins at 10 am and will be officially opened by David Ewens, this year’s Henry Butt trophy winner. Port Reeves will be in attendance as usual.

We are delighted to have DJ Olly from Enhanced Entertainment as MC throughout the day. The Wedmore First Academy Dancers will be performing in the morning, as will the Burnham and Highbridge Band who have played previously on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury no less.

Do pick up a programme from local stores for the full line up and lots more information. The theme for this year is ‘Outer Space’, so get your thinking caps on for costume ideas.

There will be prizes for the best dressed adult and child attendees, as well as the best dressed stall. Many thanks to all our sponsors and supporters who have donated prizes for our amazing raffle – don’t forget to buy your lucky tickets on the day.

The event raises valuable funds for local groups so please dig deep! Over the previous five years alone, the four groups – Green Wedmore; The Village Hall; Wedmore Harvest Home and Wedmore First Academy PTA – have received nearly £15,000 between them from the Street Fair.

Special thanks go to Susanne Agar for the use of her courtyard garden at Borough House where we will again be hosting various demonstrations. Come along and try out bowling with the Isle of Wedmore Bowls Club, watch the skilled crafters producing pottery, weaving, quilting and wood-turning, as well as displays from The Somerset Art Group.

Free parking is provided for visitors in Glebe Field adjacent to the Village Hall. Locals are asked to walk or cycle where possible to alleviate traffic.

Blue badge disabled drivers will be permitted to use the Village Hall car park.

Please note there will be no on-street parking and it’s important that drivers follow instruction from the marshals. Finally, we want to say a great thank you to our chair Gareth Gosling who has been the driving force behind the fair for many years. As Gareth steps down we are actively seeking a new Chair to take on the role.

The Street Fair has been in the village for over 730 years, so it is important we keep the tradition going. Anyone interested in finding out more about the Chair role, or if you can help in any way at the Fair this year, please

Wedmore Street Fair 2019 in The Borough, Wedmore – Saturday 6 July, 10am – 4pm Records show there has been a Street Fair in the village since 1285.

Over the years it has evolved and moved with the times and this year we are bringing it bang up to date with our theme of ‘space’. 2019 is a big year in the world of space exploration. It is of course the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing when Neil Armstrong made his famous ‘one giant leap for mankind’ statement.

For those too young to remember the moon landing in 1969, this year has also been an eventful one in terms of space discovery. Sir Richard Branston is working on his Virgin Galactic programme, hoping to offer commercial suborbital flights to paying ‘space tourists’. Also this year we have witnessed an incredible photograph of a black hole for the first time.

So there’s plenty of inspiration for your costumes this year, whether it’s astronauts or aliens. We will be awarding prizes for the best dressed stall as well as the best adult and the best child costume, so join us to celebrate all these amazing achievements at our out-of-this-world fair.

With live entertainment, music, food and drink as well as all the usual stalls, games and demonstrations, Wedmore Street Fair is fundraising for four local groups – Wedmore First School PTA, Green Wedmore, The Village Hall and Wedmore Harvest Home.

In the past five years alone the event has raised nearly £15,000 for these good causes and that’s thanks to the incredible support from local businesses, villagers and visitors. The success and safety of the Street Fair relies on your co-operation.

Please follow these important instructions for parking: • If you live in Wedmore please try to either walk or cycle to the event to alleviate some of the pressure. • Please do not park on the street as we have to ensure that we have access for emergency vehicles through our narrow roads.

Free parking is provided in Glebe Field (beside the Village Hall) for all stallholders and visitors.

Disabled parking for blue badge holders only will be provided in the Village Hall car park.

We will have volunteer marshals supported by the local police so please help keep things running smoothly by adhering to any instructions. We are always looking for extra helpers, so please get in touch if you can assist with setting up or packing away on the day or marshalling the parking.

Contact Gareth Gosling, Chair: 01934 710234. We have a limited amount of stalls still available so if you’d like to book please complete the booking form at the rear of this publication (click here for IoW News publication form) (page 46) and forward it along with payment asap.
