THE TURNIP PRIZE
WINNER 2020!
“Gardening Girl Reaps Turnip Prize”

At a ceremony held via a Zoom meeting, this year’s Turnip Prize has been awarded to “Herewe Goagain” for her work entitled “Lockdown” (A padlock on top of a pile of duck down feathers).

The award was made in front of the 6 finalists who cheered when the 53 year old winner accepted the prize, a turnip mounted on a six-inch nail. Organiser Trevor Prideaux said, “I am delighted with the lack of effort taken to create this work”.

Herewe Goagain, a gardener from Barnstaple, North Devon said ”It has always been an ambition of mine to express myself through crap art. Once the seed was sown, the idea germinated, shoots burst forth into a luxuriate masterpiece”.
.
She added “I’m tickled pink and maybe I should lack effort more often”
Trevor said, “This year’s event attracted a record total of 120 entries, it’s fantastic that “Herewe” has won, she clearly has what it takes to be recognised in modern art circles and will be remembered in art history for no time at all!”

I believe that over the last twenty-two years the artists entering ‘The Turnip Prize’ have created by far better works than Alex Farquharson and The Tate Britain Gallery could ever wish to exhibit”.

The six finalists will be on show at the New Inn, Wedmore, Somerset from Thursday 4th December and I encourage everyone to support your local pub during these difficult times.

Unlike the American election result, this year’s 2020 Turnip Prize finalists are in!!!
The six finalists are:
“A Brush with Death” by Robin Deadrest
(A robin laid on its back next to a paint brush)
“Back to the Fuchsia” by Pete Lamb
(A baby doll with its back to a fuchsia plant)
“Fur Load” by Jolly Roger
(A large bundle of fur)
“Lockdown” by Herewe Goagain
(A padlock on top of a pile of duck down feathers)
“Rock on Tommy” by The Very Reverent Canon Ball
(A rock on top of a tomato)
“Shut the D**k Up” by Doug Tunn
(A duck with gaffer tape over its beak)
We’ll be in touch with all the finalists over the next few days.
Now….which is your favourite? Winner will be announced on Tuesday 1st December online (more details to follow!)

Spoof arts award, The Turnip Prize, has revealed that entries for this year’s event will only be accepted online due to the restrictions around the Covid-19 pandemic.

Entries for the contest, which pokes fun at awards such at the Turner Prize, will open from Sunday, November 1.

Organisers from the New Inn, Wedmore in Somerset, stress that entries should take the least amount of effort possible to create.

A photograph of the entry should be emailed to theturnipprize@outlook.com, including the artist’s name or pseudonym, the title of the entry and a contact phone number.

The closing date for entries will be Saturday, November 14, with preliminary judging taking place on Sunday, November 15, to shortlist six finalists, who will be then invited to send their entries in for final judging.

On arrival, the six finalists’ entries will be sanitised and put on a show at The New Inn, Combe Batch, Wedmore.

Final judging will take place at The New Inn on Tuesday, December 1, and the winner will be announced at 6 pm that evening.
