Isle of Wedmore Society – Thursday 23rd November
The next monthly meeting will take place in the Masonic Hall, at 7.30pm on Thursday 23 November. The speaker will be Tom Wright, an ex Military Officer. Tom is a volunteer for ‘Excellent Development and, together with about 10 others, travelled to South East Kenya last year to observe and help in the building of special sand dams which conserve water for local communities. His talk will be entitled ‘The Virtuous Circle of Sand Dams.’ Members free. Visitors £3, with free glass of wine & mince pies plus also tea/coffee and biscuits after the talk. The Society, founded in 1962, has the the aim to promote interest in and care for the conservation, beauty and attract features of the Parish of Wedmore, by encouraging good planning in character with the locality.
A series of illustrated talks is given each year in the Masonic Hall (just left of the Chemist’s shop) on a variety of subjects, including those related to the Parish, followed by tea or coffee & biscuits. Membership is open to all.
An annual subscription pays for hire of the hall, speakers’ fees and refreshments.
