Report of April Isle of Wedmore Society Meeting Would you believe that approximately 50% of our April audience did not know who our Village Agent is or what their role is?

Well our Village Agent is Kirsten Rushby and she enlightened us about exactly what her role is. The Somerset village and community agents, as they are known, make a link between individuals and the various available services and offer free and confidential practical support to local people and community groups.

A lot of their referrals come through the Axbridge, Wedmore and Cheddar GPs, although anybody is able to contact our Agent directly on 07746332897. The Agents are able to help with finances, health, isolation/loneliness and anxiousness.

Loneliness being a major factor for ill health, the Agents are funded by the Somerset Commissioning Group, basically the NHS. One of the ailments that Kirsten mainly has to deal with is dementia and in this context she advises older people to make a will and appoint a Power of Attorney.

We all left the meeting with the full facts about what a Village Agent now performs. We thank Kirsten for giving up her time to come and talk to us.
