Wedmore Parish Council Business
Hello friends,
Wedmore Parish Clerk Update
August might be the quiet season for most local authorities, but not here in Wedmore. While others wind down, your Parish Council has been pressing on with full council meetings, committee discussions, and hands-on work continuing throughout the summer.
In July, we had a packed agenda. We’ve been reviewing planning applications. It’s a constant balance between supporting the need for homes and growth and protecting the very character and environment that make this parish so special.
On the national stage, we’ve added our voice to local government bodies lobbying around the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, making it clear that rural communities like ours must not be overlooked. We’ve asked for firm commitments to protect and enhance green spaces, support biodiversity, and to make sure local input still holds
weight in planning decisions. A village like Wedmore can’t be seen through a city lens; our needs are different, and we’ve been making sure they’re heard.
Speaking of green spaces, the Environment and Biodiversity Committee has been particularly active. Discussions have ranged from nature-friendly verge management to how we better support wildlife corridors and pollinator-friendly planting. On that note, a gentle reminder to everyone to help us by keeping hedges and verges trimmed
where you can. It makes a big difference for visibility, safety, and the general feel of our public spaces.
We’ve also made progress on a few bigger themes: long-term flood resilience (especially after last winter’s weather); road safety; and how we shape our local spaces for generations to come. While these are not always the most glamorous topics, they are the foundations that help our villages thrive.
And of course, no summer in Wedmore is complete without Harvest Home. It’s one of those rare events that pulls together people of all ages and backgrounds, whether you’re behind the scenes, on a float, or just enjoying the day. The Parish Council is proud to support the tradition, and many of us will be there, so please do come and say hello.
Lastly, thank you! Whether it’s reporting a pothole, offering feedback, or just taking time to read updates like this, your involvement matters. We’re always here to listen, to take action, and to keep this parish a place we’re all proud to call home.
