EQUINOX
Cantiamo at Chapel Allerton Church
Saturday 12th October 7.30 pm
Our Autumn programme, ‘Equinox’, is a celebration of the earth cycle of day into night. Setting the scene for day is the centrepiece, ‘A Sprig of Thyme’, John Rutter’s joyous arrangement of English folk music. Additional pieces celebrating nature include works by Elgar, Stanford and Britten. As we move into the evening, music by Gjeilo, Whitacre and Barber evoke the mood as darkness falls and we will be performing the wonderfully atmospheric ‘Stars’ by Esenvalds, which is accompanied by six tuned wine glasses – a first for the choir! As daybreak nears, ‘O Radiant Dawn’ by Macmillan acts as a spine-tingling reveille.
Cantiamo is a sixteen-voice auditioned choir which draws members from a large area of Somerset. We have acquired a reputation for the high quality of our music and the attractiveness of our programmes. First and foremost we love what we do and we hope that shows in our performances. Equinox will be conducted by our musical director and Allerton organist Jeremy Martin and accompanied by Claire Alsop.
The concert is free admission with a retiring collection in aid of Allerton church.
