Important News from the Wedmore Parish Council – December 2024

Wedmore Parish Council

Season’s Greetings you lovely lot! I hope you are all well. We’re here again anticipating all things festive resting heavily on our hearts and minds. I wanted to reassure you if you need someone to talk to, there are people here for you. I will do my best to update the Parish Council website with the numbers for you to access help on a whole host of subjects. If, however, you’d like a friendly face to talk to, the Warm in Wedmore initiative opens its door again on 4 December at the Masonic Hall between 10.30 am and 2.00 pm. There’s a lovely atmosphere there.

Ok, so Parish Council updates, that’s what you’re here for right? Well, firstly, and you’ll never believe it when I say that we’ve finally had some progress with the Pilcorn Street Pavement project – A feasibility study landed at the end of October and we will shortly be carrying out a public consultation exercise to ensure we hear your views on how you want this project to take shape, and the available possibilities. Secondly, the budget will be formally agreed this month, ready to submit to Somerset Council in January.

The members have ensured that we continue to provide you with the desired service whilst balancing the continuing environmental and financial pressures right now. Many of you will be aware that we are being expected to take on more responsibilities, particularly relating to maintenance and, whilst that will be great in some instances where local ‘lived’ knowledge is best, it does come at a cost. So, over this festive period, I would really appreciate it if you could take some time to engage with me about the things that are important to you, however, you feel most comfortable, via letter, email, telephone or the website.

We’re really lucky to have a strong and supportive community and a proactive Parish Council. We have the chance to effect real change in our community, but we do need to hear your voices! I really need some more councillors! Come on, it’s fun – Blackford, Cocklake, Crickham, Clewer, Heath House, Latcham, Sand and Westham, would all benefit from a representative, so don’t worry if you live there and thought you’d missed the 12 December 2024 boat, you haven’t, get your application in quickly though, I don’t want you to miss out! I know my constant badgering likely grates somewhat, but you know what would keep me quiet… just saying!

A quick reminder, the minutes for all the Parish Council meetings as well as various committee meetings are available on the website www.wedmore-pc.gov.uk Also follow us on our Facebook page and you can contact me at clerk@wedmore-pc.gov.uk or on 01934 713087. Finally, on behalf of all the members of the Parish Council and myself, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and we’ll see you in the New Year!
