Wedmore Parish Council
Parish Council Business
Hello Friends! As we welcome October, the Parish Council would like to update you on several key initiatives they have been working on for our community. Neighbourhood Emergency Plan We’re excited to announce that our updated Neighbourhood Emergency Plan will be published by the end of the year. This plan aims to provide valuable advice on preventing flooding and mitigating its effects. We’ve partnered with the Emergency
Volunteer Action Group (EVAG) to offer support to homes at risk of flooding. EVAG will assess individual properties and provide subsidised flood prevention equipment, such as expandable barriers and water absorbers. Please see the article later in this issue.
Parish Council Initiatives
The Council is currently working on several projects to improve our village. We’re continuing our efforts to take over the Cross Farm Playground, it is hoped that we will be able to provide a safe and enjoyable space for older children and teens in this largely neglected space. The initial stages of renovation work at Theale Village Hall are now well underway, it is hoped that the newly refurbished space will offer a multitude of opportunities for local people and organisations, a much-needed community hub for Theale.
We have had to re-evaluate the plans for refurbishing the public toilets in the Borough. We are currently exploring our options and are hopeful the project will be able to progress soon!
October 2024
We are now in budget-setting season and following numerous requests from residents we’re considering the installation of additional waste bins to help keep our public spaces clean. Your feedback and ideas are always welcome, so please let us know if you have any thoughts on these matters.
Volunteers Needed
I know, I know, you’re all tired of listening to me beg you to join the Parish Council! We are still desperate for councillors, but for the very many people who have shown interest in getting involved but say it’s just not the right time or ‘I just don’t have enough time’, we’re always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with our various
community projects. So, if you’re interested in getting involved, whether it’s for our events or other local initiatives, please reach out to us. Your support is invaluable and helps make our community a better place.

Wedmore Emergency Flood Prevention
Wedmore Parish Council has established links with a non-profit organisation to support the introduction of its forthcoming, updated neighbourhood ‘Emergency Plan’. This plan will be published towards the end of the year to include advice on possible steps to take in an attempt to prevent flooding in homes and business premises.
The ‘Emergency Volunteer Action Group’ (EVAG) is willing to offer support to homes in the Parish of Wedmore by visiting individual properties to assess equipment needs which will be made available to hopefully minimise some of the effects of flooding. The cost of selected equipment (e.g. expandable flood barriers, water absorbers, air brick seals etc) will be subsidised. If contributions are requested from households the final cost will likely be lower than purchasing the same equipment privately.
If you have experienced floodwater entering your property, or you consider yourself to be at very serious risk of flooding, based upon the information given on www.gov.uk ‘Floodline’, this offer may apply to you. Each request will be assessed, but if you feel you qualify, please contact the clerk of the Parish Council by giving details of your name, and address including postcode, telephone number and email. Briefly, please outline the reason( s) why you feel you may qualify for this offer of support. Please email the Clerk to the Parish Council by Friday 25 October 2024 at clerk@wedmore-pc.gov.uk
