Wedmore Parish Council Business
Hello friends,
Hello friends, I just wanted to pop in with a little update from the Parish Council — and this time, it’s packed with good news!
First of all, I have to say, it was so lovely to hear from so many of you after last month’s contribution. Clearly it stirred something up! Thank you to everyone who checked in on me, it genuinely meant a lot. I’m absolutely fine, still standing and, for those who know me personally, you’ll know I’m not someone who gives up easily. I like a challenge, and I’m definitely not one to be defeated! I’m not going anywhere — you’re stuck with me!
Now onto the good stuff. After years (and years, and years!) of calling out for new councillors, I’m thrilled to say we’ve co-opted three brilliant new members: Jonathan Newton, David Kirley, and Melissa Parsons. I couldn’t be happier to have them on board. Even better, we’ve had five more enquiries about joining. If this keeps up, we
could soon have a full Council again. How amazing would that be? Thank you so much to everyone who’s stepped forward so far.
Consultation has also started with residents along Pilcorn Street about the potential for creating a pavement in two sections. No decisions have been made, we’re simply gathering feedback at this stage to help guide any next steps. As with any proposal, we’re keen to hear all views and make sure that any action reflects the needs and
wishes of the community.
We recently held our Annual Parish Assembly, which was a great chance to reflect on the work of the last year. We’ve tackled some big projects, from improving flood resilience and maintaining community spaces; to continuing the long and frustrating push for the handover of the Cross Farm play area. We’re still chasing Somerset Council and the developers for a confirmed handover date, and rest assured, we’ll keep pushing until it’s finally sorted.
We also awarded over £4,500 in grants to brilliant local groups like Wedmore in Bloom and Theale Flower Show.
A huge congratulations as well to David Hopkins, who received the Henry Butt Trophy this year for his outstanding contributions to the community through Warm in Wedmore, the Repair Café, and the Community Bus. Very well deserved!
Even with all this good news, I’m not putting my feet up just yet. The truth is your voice matters, and it’s crucial that it’s heard. Everything the Parish Council does relies on the people of Wedmore speaking up, getting involved, and helping to shape our future.
So please come to meetings; send in your thoughts; volunteer where you can; or even consider joining us as a councillor. Every conversation, every idea, every bit of time you give makes a real difference. This is your community, and its future is in your hands. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue building something we
can all be proud of.
Take care, enjoy the sunshine, and hopefully I’ll see you around the village! Lindsey Baker, Clerk, Wedmore Parish Council
