A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen
8th, 9th and 10th December
Tremendous production – and an outstanding performance by all the actors!
Our Autumn production is Ibsen’s iconic 1879 masterpiece, A Doll’s House, rightly dubbed the world’s first ever feminist play and as relevant today as it was nearly 150 years ago. Gender equality still stands among the biggest human rights battles yet to be fought and, shockingly, what’s now called ‘coercive control’ of young women by men remains a reality in 2022.

Synopsis
A comfortably off family is preparing for a happy and fulfilling Christmas. The tree is decorated, the log burner fills the house with cosiness, friends call by to join the festive cheer, the husband has just had a promotion, the children are excited as parcels begin to mount under the tree…
But. This play is by Ibsen, so nothing is as it seems. There are dark secrets; some going back many years. As they surface, they begin to tear at the seams of the relationships. Not just within the family, but into their wider circle of friends and colleagues.
Can the damage caused by the devastating revelations be contained? Can the secrets and lies be re-buried and happy family life continue as before? Or is the whole edifice doomed to come crashing down?
