Important News from the Wedmore Parish Council – March 2025

Wedmore Parish Council Business

Hello, lovely Wedmore!

Spring is just around the corner, and there’s so much to look forward to in 2025! It’s been a busy start to the year, and I can’t wait to share all the exciting developments happening in our village!

The Village Hall Open Day is on Friday 21 March. This is a fantastic opportunity to see what’s happening at Wedmore Village Hall, meet the committee, and learn more about future plans. We’ll also be looking for your ideas and feedback as we continue to improve and develop the Hall for the community.

The Parish Assembly is on Wednesday 2 April. The annual Parish Assembly is where we come together to discuss what’s happening in Wedmore. Whether you’ve got burning questions or you just want to hear the latest updates, come along and join the conversation. We’ll be celebrating the amazing work volunteers have done across
the community – let’s celebrate the people who make Wedmore what it is!

As always, the Parish Council is looking for more hands to help with ongoing projects. We are particularly looking for more passionate individuals to join the Parish Council as Councillors and help make Wedmore an even better place to live. If you have ideas and want to make a real impact, we need your voice!

We have several ongoing Community Project initiatives in Wedmore for this year,
including:
New Borough Toilets: We’re moving closer to finalising the design for the new toilets. Your feedback has been incredibly helpful, and we’re excited to see the final plans come together.

Panborough Drain: The Council has applied for a grant from the Somerset Rivers Authority to clear the Panborough Drain. This will help with environmental conservation and improve drainage in the area.

SpeedWatch Scheme: We’ve given our support to the Community SpeedWatch Scheme, pending further details from Avon and Somerset Constabulary. Stay tuned for more information on how we’ll be involved.

At the January Council meeting, several important topics were discussed, including  Cyclist Safety on Mudgley Hill, where the Council is looking into safety measures, including possible signage for cyclists and Pilcorn Street Improvements, where a site meeting with Somerset Highways was held to discuss upcoming improvements
to Pilcorn Street, including a new kerbed pavement and potential traffic calming
measures.

Next month, I’ll be sharing the total sums of money spent on community groups and projects in Wedmore, so you’ll see just how your support and council tax contributions are making a difference! Also, don’t forget that nominations for the prestigious Henry Butt Award are open, and we need your help in finding this year’s deserving winner.

If you know someone who has gone above and beyond for our community, get your nominations in by Sunday 16 March.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to spring and hope to see you soon!
