Since launching the Somerset Business Mentoring Programme, Somerset Council have seen considerable interest in the new programme, with plenty of exciting applications. We are now down to our final few places on the scheme.
With mentors from executive and senior management level business leaders or successful entrepreneurs, they understand the challenges associated with running and growing a business and the value of impartial advice.
They can offer sector experience or a specialism in areas such as:
- Growth Strategy,
- Finance,
- Marketing,
- Product or Service Development,
- Bid Writing,
- Acquisition,
- Exit Strategy,
- HR
- E-commerce… and much more
The Somerset Business Mentoring Programme can offer businesses over 1 year old, up to 6 hrs of free mentoring over a 6-month period.

Lunch and Learn: Waste and Circular Economy – 14 June, online
Business West are running a free Lunch and Learn webinar on the 14 June, 12:30 – 13:30, covering the topic of Waste and Circular Economy.
During a comprehensive 1 hour session, three expert speakers from local businesses will review the waste hierarchy, help you to understand the principles of a circular economy, and explore the inspiring projects and work that businesses are doing in this area.

Through funding from Somerset Energy Innovation Centre (SEIC), you can claim 12 hours of free support towards your Net Zero journey, which includes attendance onto our workshops and Lunch and Learn events.

The Aiming for Net Zero workshop series will help you with your carbon reduction plans, no matter where you are on your Net Zero journey. Each workshop covers a different topic, making them suitable for different people and areas across the business.

Thrive Business Support Programme is back by popular demand
Since its launch – Thrive have supported over 600 businesses in the Devon and Somerset area. The Thrive Business Support Programme has now been extended until the end of July 2023.
Through 1-2-1 business support, Thrive offers fully-funded expert advice and tailored guidance to help support local businesses with growth, resilience, trade, marketing, recruitment, and more.
Driving Digital Business
The Heart of the South West Growth Hub is offering Free Digital Leadership training for small and medium businesses (SMEs) across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset, and Torbay. It is available for business leaders who operate in the following sectors:
- Manufacturing,
- Clean Growth,
- Health and Adult Social Care,
and who have:
are eligible to apply for this free training opportunity.
Businesses can receive up to 32 hours of tutor led digital leadership training with the aim of embedding digital transformation within their business.
Training opportunities are available. These include Driving Digital Transformation and Driving Digital Business.
