We’ve been silent for far too long, but we haven’t been idle!
Have you seen our new website, including our lockdown performance? Have you seen us on Instagram? The core Production Team have been Zooming regularly over these last months, even managing to meet safely in person more recently, we are now ready to announce the launch of our production for July 2022.
It will be The Merry Widow by Franz Lehar, set in the 1920s in a decadent Paris including an evening at Maxim’s.
The professional singers are engaged, the orchestra is booked. Designs are moving forward for the set and the lighting. It will all be suitably extravagant reflecting the times.
After a false start in July, we would like to invite you to our launch event on 5th September 2021 at 6 pm in Wedmore Village Hall when we will have more to show you, as well as a very welcome opportunity to get together once again. We need to recruit our wonderful chorus, we need more men! We are also looking for a choreographer and some dancers, so if you have any of those skills we’d love to hear from you.
Rehearsals will begin next March. But that’s not all, we have a set to build and paint, we’ll need a backstage team, a front of house team, bar staff etc. So if you have hidden talents or even if you’ve never done anything like this before but fancy a go, you will be made very welcome to join us and to be part of “Excellent Opera in a Village Setting”
Putting on an opera even in a village hall using willing volunteers does incur considerable costs. If you would like to support us with a donation, we would be very grateful. You can do this by following this link or email wedmoreopera@gmail.com and we’ll send you more information.
But most of all we look forward to seeing you in September.
