Wedmore Theatre – It’s time to plan 2023…

Logo

Join us in The Function Room at The George next Monday 9th January at 7:30 pm to discuss what productions we might put on in the coming 12 months (and beyond!)

This is an informal social gathering to enable us to review what we did last year and plan for the year to come. All aged over 8 years are invited to come along and make suggestions, and we particularly welcome newcomers who are keen to try their hand at participating, either onstage or backstage, for the first time.

It helps us and The George to plan the evening if you can let us know in advance if you intend to come – please drop us a note at: productions@wedmoretheatre.com

Or, if you can’t let us know ahead, just come along anyway!

We finished 2022 on a truly high note, with our critically acclaimed production of Ibsen’s A Doll’s House. It wowed audiences in the Village Hall, despite a date clash with the England World Cup semi-final.

After nearly three years of struggling through the repeated set-backs and restrictions imposed by the COVID gloom, we finally got it together, and how!

The team agreed that none of us has ever known such a stunning critical reception for a play. Starting with the formal review featured in the Isle of Wedmore News this month – there was a torrent of praise from audiences. Here are just a few of the comments posted:

  • “What a wonderful play! The acting and professionalism of the cast was excellent!”
  • “Wonderful performances from all the cast. Very impressive line learning too! Wonderful local entertainment”
  • “Amazing! Loved it. What a performance by all – well done!”
  • “Nora’s exit leaving Torvald forever was memorable and touching. Thank you for a wonderful show”
  • “ Excellent production – well done to all concerned!”
  • “Great Am-dram, Nora was perfect!”
  • “Amazing! How do you remember all those lines?”
  • “Great evening’s entertainment – well worth coming out in the cold”
  • “Well directed – Nora and Dr Rank were excellent. The costumes and lighting were very good. Very impressive production. Well done to all.”

The icing on the cake was that the production made a profit of £500, mainly due to a generous sponsorship by Blue Cedar Homes, all of which goes to our chosen charity, Diversity Voice, who are supporting Ukrainian refugees in Somerset.
